Diagnosed With Epilepsy. Had Seizure Due To Altitude Sickness. Irregular Heart Beat. Could There Be A Problem With Heart Muscle?
I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was nine years old. I am now 45. I have not been on medication for 7 years and in that time have had only one seizure related to altitude sickness . My income is too low to afford insurance and too high to qualify for assistance so I go without treatment. For about 5 days now I have experienced a rapid, irregular heartbeat . It is accompanied with mild discomfort, a strange feeling in my diaphragm area, and has affected my appetite and energy level. Could my heart muscle be having seizures? When I have warning signs, it has generally been my left arm jerking. This is new and frightening. Thank you for listening.

Hi, Your symptoms are called as palpitations. These are related to abnormal heart rhythm, called as arrhythmias. These are not related to epilepsy. You need to see a cardiologist for opinion and advice. Best wishes, Dr Sudhir Kumar MD DM (Neurology) Senior Consultant Neurologist
