Hello and welcome to HCM,
Osteopenia is a condition in which there is loss of bone mass.
It is commonly seen in post-menopausal females due to deficiency of estrogens in body.
Bones are prone to
fractures on trivial trauma.
So, it is important to increase the bone mass.
The bone
DEXA scan will help to know the degree of bone mass deficit.
The deficit will determine the amount of calcium to be taken per day.
Supplements need to be added for the calcium deficit.
If the deficit becomes quite severe, a group of drugs called bisphophonates need to be added. But this has to be done after consulting your doctor.
Milk intake should be continued.
Exercises like walking and light weight bearing exercises should be done.
Very strenuous exercises should not attempted as there is risk of fractures.
Thanks and take care
