Diagonised With CHF & Stage 1 Alzheimer's

My great aunt (89 yrs) was recently diagnosed with CHF, also has stage one Alzheimer's, these past few days has refused to take her medications (coreg, LASIK being the two most important) and putting them in food is not an option. What am I to expect as her sole care giver if she won't take these

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that her cardiac situation is going to aggravate if she does not take her pills.

She may have increased fluid retention, caused by the stopping of Lasix, leading to leg swelling and shortness of breath (from lung edema).

Her heart rate may be increased because of stopping coreg (which is a beta blocker).

This may lead to an emergency situation and the need to bring her to the ER service.
