Discomfort In Abdomen Near Appendix Scar, Lump Underneath Skin. Any Ideas?

For three days I have had discomfort in my right abdominal area by an appendix scare. I noticed today there is a lump underneath my skin by the scar. I'm 36 and I had my appendix removed when I was 17. The discomfort is similar to muscle pain from working out. I've been very active this week and initially thought it was due to working out but the lump isn't normal. The lump is the bean size and not painful to touch. Thoughts?

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
This discomfort may be due to fibrosis in old operated lesion and bound to happen due to any disease in abdomen .
Since you didn't mention that where is pain in abdomen .
Any pain in abdomen will radiate to old operated scar , so need not to worry.
Still you think that this is excruciating pain then consult a surgeon and get his opinion .
At present in my opinion there is no need of any tests, but , if pain persists then get in M R I and deal accordingly.
Good luck.

Hi Dear
Welcome To the Health Care Magic.

It appears to me that some suture material is left to disslove spontaneously which should have been up till now.

Now It has become a cyst (fluid filled small cavity) which is infected and thus causing some discomfort(Painful or painless and tenderness).

Analgesic anti inflammmatory drugs along with relevant antibiotic may relieve the problem. Some times the cyst has to be incised.

Hope the query is answered.
Thanks

Hello ,
Thanks for your query .
I understand that you are experiencing discomfort due to a lump in the right abdominal area by an appendix scar .This could be probably suggestive of a stitch abscess which has resolved or an hernia . However since there are no signs of inflammation like redness, pain on touch there is no reason to worry . Ultrasound Abdomen can confirm the diagnosis . If it is an abscess then it can be aspirated through ultrasound guided along with the use of antibiotics.
i would suggest you to get an ultrasound abdomen and based on the report further management can be planned.
Thank you.
