Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
For the past 2 weeks I have been Dizzy and off balence. I have been getting confused and I have extreme pain in the base of neck in the back of my neck. At first i thought i was having ear problems so i poured perioxide into my ears and that did not do anything. After getting nauseous I went to the ER. They took an X ray. And said nothing was out of place. They thought i had a cervical strain. I dont know what I could have done to hurt my neck so bad but I do worry my doctors didnt really look at me and see if they could find anything. Vitals good, Blood pressure good. I work 3rd shift so I sleep a lot. I have been sleeping a lot because being awake with the pain is unbearable. They have me pain medicine but i dont like taking narcotics.

Hi and welcome to HCM
Neck pain and dizziness that you are having are suggestive of degenerative spondylottic changes of the cervical spine. Treatment includes 1. Use of cervical collar helps in immobilisation and brings relief. 2. Medical drugs like pain killers - acetaminophen/ibuprofen and muscle relaxants might be helpful. 3. Cervical isometric exercises are beneficial to maintain the strength of the neck muscles. Neck and upper back stretching exercises, as well as light aerobic activities, also are recommended under the guidance of a physical therapist. 4. Hot fomentation helps in relieving acute symptoms. 5. You can avoid using a pillow.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and informative and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care.
