Do Syndopa & Quitipin Have Side Effects?

Hi, Doctor suggested my father ( 78yrs ) to take Syndopa 110 thrice daily and Quitipin 25 once daily. He has been taking Syndopa 110 & Quitipin 25 for last 9 months. I have observed change in his behavioual pattern after taking these medicines. Now, he is unable to talk logically and specially in the morning, he is not able to talk with clarity. He does not have Parkinson, BP is 150 / 80 and he is quite stable according to the cardialogist. The resaon for visiting a neurologist was hallucinatioon. It seems that Syndopa & Quitipin have caused more trouble for him. I would like to know more about this Syndopa & Quitipin and if there are any side effects. Can we slowly reduce the dose and finally stop these two medicines? Kindly advise... Sincerely, SP

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
You have mentioned that your father does not suffer from parkinsonism.
Syndopa is basically given to treat parkinsonism. It can cause psychotic symptoms like hallucination.
Quitipin is an antipsychotic. At the dose of 25mg it can just cause sedation but its antipsychotic dose is much higher.
I would suggest you to not reduce or stop medicines on your own.
Also you must visit a psychiatrist for detailed evaluation of behavioral problems and hallucinations.
Hope this helps.
Thanks
