Do Birth Control Pills Cause Cramps And Heavy Bleeding?

I am 20 years old who has been diagnosed with Pcos, and as i wanted to go on birth control too, my doctor prescribed Femilon. I want to know how long it takes for the pill to start working? I have a case of bad cramps and heavy bleeding during my periods. The pain and discomfort is so bad that i am immobile for the first three-four days. I started femilon 5 days back and i m currently going through the worst cramps i ve ever had and extra heavy bleeding. I want to know how soon before the femilon will help with the pcos problem. Also, are the current cramps and extra heavy bleeding due to the pill?

Hi,

Birth control pills can cause cramps and abnormal bleeding especially on the initial days of usage, nothing much to worry and it is a normal response to pills.

You can take analgesics like Mefenamic acid for pain and Trenaxa or Ethamsylate for bleeding.

If the symptoms are severe, you can consult a gynecologist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
