Do Low LDL Levels Cause Clogged Arteries?

My husband is 85 yrs old, 80 pounds overweight. He has low chloesteral & eats all the wrong foods. He controls sleep apnea with a c-pap machine. He has a hard time breathing & can only walk a short distance (6 steps) without resting. Can he have clogged arteries with low LDL s?

LDL cholesterol is considered to be bad cholesterol for the reason that it transports cholesterol from liver to peripheral tissues. Hence, when the level of LDL is high, it can lead to deposition of lipids in arteries and clogging it. This is a risk for coronary artery disease. If the level of LDL is low, it indicates that the risk for coronary artery disease is less.
However, HDL cholesterol level needs to be high as it is considered to be cardio-protective. HDL functions by transport of cholesterol from peripheral tissues to the liver.
