Do Poor Health Habits Cause Recurrent Pain In The Head?

Severe head pain comes on and then leaves. Could this be nerves or because of not eating healthy or lack of rest. Concerned about a friend. I have severe chest pain comes on when I sleep, when I m sitting. I drink water and take .25 xanax and it goes away. Could this just be my nerves.

Hi,

Judging from your description anxiety may well be a cause as you yourself suggest, it does predispose for tension type headache and also for the chest sensations you mention.

The fact that Xanax relieves it also supports that possibility as it is an antianxiety drug. However, Xanax is not to be used for long periods of time as it has tolerance and dependence issues.

The first step would be psychotherapy and relaxation exercises, activities like yoga help as well. If not enough than long-term medication for anxiety are usually antidepressants.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
