Do Soft And Smelly Stool And Lower Abdominal Pain Need Medical Attention?
For about 2 months I’ve had frequent (5-6 x daily) stringy, acidic smelling, very soft bowel movements along with occasional severe lower abdominal pains. Thought it my be because I started a new medication for fibromyalgia recently diagnosed. I have continued medication hoping symptoms would subside...they have not. Could the meds still be causing this? How long is long enough to see my gastrointestinal doctor? Any thoughts on what this could be? Thank you
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Frequency of bowel movements, acidic smelling stringy stools and occasional lower abdominal pain can be due to intestinal infection. This may be due to the medications for fibromyalgia but since you have not mentioned the names it is hard to comment on this issue. Anyway, please do the following in such a situation: Consult your Doctor to discuss about the issue, have clinical evaluation ,examination and investigations of stool, blood and urine along with X-ray and ultrasonography of abdomen. All these will lead to a proper diagnosis and gives a plan of management.
