Does Amantadine Cause Hallucination And Sleeping Difficulty In A Diabetic?
my father was diagnosed with parksinons disease 3 years ago and we seen a specialist in Indianapolis and she prescribed him Carb Levo. He is taking the highest dose she said which is 25-100 mg. He takes 2 tablets 3 times a day and just 2 months ago the neurologist from Evansville seen him and prescribed him amantadine 100 mg 1 tablet by mouth 2x a day and since then he has been seeing things that aren t even there and been having trouble sleeping he is also a type 2 diabetic could this be a side effect to the amantadine should I contact the neurologist back Thank you Amanda
These symptoms can be due to progression of Parkinson as hallucinations or psychiatric symptoms can be part of Parkinson's disease. He may need to be prescribed benzodiazepines and get a detailed psychiatric evaluation as well. Some psychiatric medicine can increase rigidity of Parkinson's disease so proper evaluation and management plan should be adjusted accordingly. Also, Ropinirole or other drugs may need to be added in his Parkinson's treatment plan.
