Does Amoxicillin Lower The Effectiveness Of Nuvaring?

I just started using the nuvaring, I got 2 samples from my dr so I can try it, since I have already used it, about 10 years ago, I didn t think to ask any questions. 1st question, do I need to wait 1 month before the nuvaring is effective? 2nd, I also just started taking 500mgs of amoxicillin, will that make the nuvaring not work? If so, how long after stopping the amoxicillin will it take for the nuvaring to be effective against pregnancy? We already have 4 children and we don t want anymore and don t want to take any chances and we don t have much experience with birth control. Thank you for taking the time to help me. Monica

Chances are very low as it is not an inducer of the cytochrome p450, which is where metabolism of the hormones from nuvaring occurs. Still to be completely safe i suggest using condoms during the time u use amoxicillin.
