Does Ciprofloxacin Cause Pain From The Neck To The Knees?

I have extreme pain and weakness from my neck to my knees. I have had this pain for about three weeks. I was hospitalized last November for a kidney infection and was given Ciprofloxacin. Cluld my pain be related to that? I also have Polycythemia Vera. Could this be from a blood clot? Thank you.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Ciprolflaxacin (though can potentially cause tendinitis), however the pain you said should not be caused by cipro, neither it should last this much after stopping the drug. So I don't think it would be the drug causing it. Similarly this much diffused pain and the site of the pain is not typical for a blood clot, so again its probably not any clot. However in context of polycythemia there can be so many reason that can give you pain, like if HB is very high, raised uric acid ,or any infection, raised or low calcium. Or mechanical pain. So I would advise you should go to your doctor , and get fresh test , including HB level, TSH, CBC , X-ray, uric acid, etc to know what could be the cause of the pain , your doctor may better advise what tests you need after he examines you. You can use regular Paracetamol for the pain till that.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
