Does Estradiol Have An Cost Effective Generic Equivalent?

what is the most effective generic equivalent for Estradiol 0.05 mg? We lost our insurance and the previously available generic is no longer available for my wife. Just paid $95.00 for 8 patches and that s just way too much, much more than we can presently afford. Any suggestions for a equivalent patch or perhaps a oral equivalent before we call the doctor. I want to have some information before hand as to effective or possibly a close related drug. Thanks, Scott

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Estradiol is a form of estrogen, a female sex hormone produced by the ovaries. Estradiol is used to treat symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness, as well as osteoporosis.
Its generic name itself is 'estradiol'. It is available as cream and patches.
It is available with brand names: Alora, Climara, Estrace, Estraderm, Estradiol Patch, Menostar, Vivelle and Vivelle-Dot.
Transdermal form is the preferred mode of its use than oral or cream.
Kindly use the form which suits you as has been prescribed by your doctor.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
