Does G6PD Deficiency Cause Chest Pain After Physical Excertion?

Hello, My son has g6pd and he is currently doing track and field. He says that he has intense stabbing chest pain during and after his run (sometimes before). I remember his Dr., who is now gone, asking him a few years ago if he had chest pains before but I do not remember to what extent (this question was asked about 3 years ago). Is there any correlation between g6pd and intense physical activity?

Hi,

It is better to avoid physical exertion as his oxygen demand is increased during physical activities and because of inherent defect of his red blood cells, he cannot meet his requirements and sometimes results in symptoms like chest pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
