Does Levaquin Cause Headache, Achy Neck Muscles And Discomfort In The Head?
My 98 year old mother in law, in assisted living, just finished 5 days of levaquin yesterday. She has had a headache, neck muscle aches, and she described feels like ants crawling up the sides of my head . Said she could feel the blood flowing in her head. She is very alert, no dementia. Almost passed out yesterday from dizziness. The levaquin?

- Yes, it could very well be the Levaquin. The fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, etc) now carry a black box warning on them because of the severity of side effects including tendon ruptures and other serious problems.
I don't know what infection your mother is taking it for, but I strongly advise calling the doctor who prescribed it, discontinuing the levofloxacin (Levaquin), and if her doctor still feels she needs an antibiotic, taking one that is not in this class of antibiotics.
It's possible after 5 days on the levofloxacin that she does not need a further antibiotic, but I will leave that to her own doctor to decide.
If he/she does prescribe another antibiotic, consider having your mom take a good probiotic so that after 2 antibiotics, she doesn't end up with diarrhea from her gut flora is messed up.
