Does Methotrexate Hinder The Treatment Of An Abcess In Armpit?

I am currently taking Plaquenil and Methotrexate (with Folic Acid 1mg) for Lupus. My WBC s are 4.1. I have been dealing with an abcess to my armpit for about 5 weeks and am on my 3rd course of antibiotics (Keflex and now Cipro.) My arm pit has a hole about the diameter of a straw and cotinues to drain-wound cx showed (+) for Pseudomonas. Is it likely the Methotrexate or the Lupus itself that is hindering my resolve of this infection? I am not running a temp.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Both methotrxate and systemic lupus erythematosus impair the immune system and decrease our ability to fight infections.
Pseudomonas is not to be taken lightly in a person with impaired immunity and may require a more potent and specific antibiotic depending on the culture sensitivity of the organism.
If you have further queries, I am available to answer them.
