Does Metoprolol Cause Hair Loss?

Does taking Metoprolol cause hair loss. I m 46 year old male, 6 199 lbs and workout approx 5 times a week. I started noticing hair loss about 5 months ago, after taking Metroprolol for about 6 months prior. I have never had a problem with hair loss in the past and am trying to figure out if it is due to the medication or other circumstances.

Hi,

Anti-hypertensive drugs like metoprolol and ACE inhibitors can cause hair loss in some patients. Hair loss caused by these drugs is usually reversible. Drugs like minoxidil may be required to stimulate the hair follicles and cause new hair growth. Co-existing hair problems like dandruff should also be treated.

Multivitamin supplements can be taken regularly once a day. Adequate hydration is also essential.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
