Does Metoprolol Interact With Ropinirole And Effexor?

I am 73 year old female and take the foll. prescriptions: Metoprolol 25mg for BP, Ropinirole 3mg for RLS and Celexa 40mg DRR., with no side effects. After the suicidal death of my husband and a close dear friend, my Dr. prescibed Effexor ER 75mg. I took it for approx. 1 month when the side effects at night started (horrible dreams, no-stop restles legs, high BP, going to pee every 2 hrs, etc.). I stopped taking it and wow, the withdrawal symptoms started full blast. Question: What is your opinion about taking Elavil or Prozac?

Hello,

Taking Metoprolol together with Ropinirole and Effexor does not cause any harmful interaction. After having gone through your query, you seem to have developed symptoms suggestive of 'serotonin syndrome' which appeared to had resulted from the use of a combination of Effexor and Celexa and subsided later after stopping Effexor however with the appearance of its withdrawal symptoms.

Taking Elavil or Prozac along with Celexa instead of Effexor can also cause the life-threatening 'serotonin syndrome'. In view of I advise you to consult your treating psychiatrist for an alternate effective drug to treat your depression.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
