Does Oxycodone Cause Swelling In Ankles And Feet?

I have been on oxycodone for a spine injury for 3 1/2 years now. I take 5.... 15mg a day, About 8 to 9 months ago my ankles and feet would / do swell. When they swell it is very painful and lasts about a week. Then starts all over again the next month. It is always within the 1st week of starting my pain meds again. I was wondering if the oxycodone could cause this ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear thanks for the question.

Oxycodon can cause ankle swelling , although it is a rare side effect of this medicine. This is non serious side effect. Your dosage is also on lower side of safe spectrum.

However as a treating doctor I would try to rule out other causes of ankle swelling like arthritis, high uric acid before blaming oxycodon for this. I would like to advise you to discuss with your doctor in details about this and if it troubles you, you can request change in medicine.

I hope my reply is helpful to you. Do write for follow up queries. Kindly rate my reply. I wish you good health. Thank you.
