Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m a chronic pain patient from failed foot surgery on both feet. I ve been taking oxycodone for over 3 years - today the pharmacist called me and said it was out of stock and I should see my doctor regarding changing pain med. Is oxycodone really scarce?
HI THANKS FOR YOUR QUERY.first of all let me clarify to you that oxycodone is relatvely safer group of synthetic opioids...its sideeffect profile is very marginal.but let me tell you each medication will have its own side effect profile when used beyond certain length of time.I suggest you use this drug on intermitent doses in smallest doses possible for a least possible time.I suggest you get your foot surgery revised.painkillers in general can be responsible for renal disorders -CHRONIC ANALGESIC NEPHROPATHY....when used in drug combinations for more than ten years.so since in your case its just 3 yrs of usuage ,you can relatively feel assured.but keep track of renal function by periodic monitoring thrugh renal ultrasound scan and complete urine ex......so you can currently get on with oxycodne ,but feel free to visit PAIN MANAGEMENT SPECIALED CLINICS for expert pain management in near future.thank you.
