Does Pentasa Tablet Cause Lower Abdominal Pains And Weight Loss?
my husband is suffering from chronic ulcerative colitis since 3 yrs.six months back he started bleeding with stool.from three months the condition gone worst.doctor has diogonised it that there is an inflammation in the intestine.now one month back he has started a new medicine called pentasa sachet 1gmalong with azoran 75mg.now the problem is that he have a lower abdominal pain with sudden weight loss.is it because of PENTASA.shall i discontinue this?before pentasa he was taking MESACOL 800 three times.
Both PENTASA and mesacol contain the same medicine called MESALAMINE which is given for ulcerative colitis. Here only the dosage is changed from 800 mg to 1000 mg(1gm). The cause of abdominal pain can be the disease itself as ulcerative colitis can cause abdominal pain, bloody mucoid stool and fever. Also it should be understood that in around 4-8% of people taking MESALAMINE, abdominal pain can come as side effect.
