Both PENTASA and mesacol contain the same medicine called MESALAMINE which is given for ulcerative colitis. Here only the dosage is changed from 800 mg to 1000 mg(1gm). The cause of abdominal pain can be the disease itself as ulcerative colitis can cause abdominal pain, bloody mucoid stool and fever. Also it should be understood that in around 4-8% of people taking MESALAMINE, abdominal pain can come as side effect.
