Does Pronstan Affect Menstruation?

I have recently visited my doctor about some terrible symptoms of my period such as headaches, severe cramps and backaches. She prescribed pronstan and explained to me that this type if medication will help with these symptoms. She instructed me to take 1 tablet each day for atleast two days prior to my period. I did as I was told and on the day my period was suppose to come, it didn t. I said I ll just give it some time and it s about 2weeks late now. There is no way I could be pregnant because in not sexually active, so I was wondering if pronstan could cause me to skip a cycle or something like that?

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Ponstan forte tablets contain the active ingredient mefenamic acid, which is a type of medicine called a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It used to relieve pain and inflammation. It is not known to affect menstruation causing delay in the periods.
Since you are giving history that you could not be pregnant as you were not sexually active, the cause of your delayed periods could be due to hormonal imbalance.
Kindly get the following tests done.
1. Serum FSH, LH and Prolactin levels.
2. Ultrasound scan of pelvis.
Kindly consult Gynecologist with the above investigation reports for appropriate evaluation and management.
Hope the information provided would be useful.
All the best.
