Does Tamsulosin And Finasteride Cause Permanent Bladder Damage?

i could void only in drips and drabs after my hernia repair surgery. I continued to have pain and 3 days after surgery I went to my general DR. who referred me to a urologist the same day. The urologist inserted a cath, which produced 1550 ml of urine. I remained with cath and taking Alfuzonsin for one week and still could void only in drips and drabs. I m still with a cath and taking Tamsulosin and Finasteride and I am supposed to see the urologist in 2 more weeks. I am very concerned about having a permanent damage to my bladder. According to my urologist I have enlarged prostate (46 ml), but I had no urinary issues prior to this surgery.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Many times urinary issues are provoked after surgery through spinal anesthesia and numbing effect over the bladder. The narrated drugs as Tamsulosin and Finasteride are not for permanent damage to bladder.

They help out in primary concern of bladder contractility and once they are stopped , their actions are reversed automatically, so do not get panic regarding that.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
