Hi, I have a dent in the top of my head. It has been there for a month now along with a headache. I wake up with this major pain in my head, also I go to sleep with it. I also feel nausea at times and feel very hungry. What is my problem? Should I be concerned?

Hello. thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. This dent in your skull could be
: post head injury - In past, you might be having some accident or injury which caused this dent. If it is so, it is less likely to give pain. These dents are usually asymptomatic and no treatment is needed for this.

If headache is occurring, actual cause may be something else. You may take Diclofenac sodium after proper prescription.

: Dent due to dermoid/bony lesion - sometimes dermoid cyst/bony lesion like infection, tumor can cause dent in skull. But in such cases, you will some mass or swelling at dent site. Headache could be due to the lesion.

For management, you need to consult doctor. Biopsy (piece of tissue) of lesion may be needed to confirm diagnosis. Further management depends upon actual diagnosis.

: Dent may be due to bone molding. It is a normal physiological process doing childhood. It occurs to shape the skull. No intervention is needed for it. It is asymptomatic.

For headache, other causes should be ruled out, like eye problem, high blood pressure, tension headache, migraine. You have to consult doctor for the same. He might examine you and advise some tests to reach upto some conclusion.

You can correlate your symptoms and reach upto some diagnosis. Still you have doubts, you should consult doctor.

Hope it will help you. Thanks. Take care.
