Does A Rotator Cuff Tear Heal On Its Own?

A friend was diagnosed with a torn shoulder tendon without any imaging. He has full ROM and grip. He has a “popeye” bicpes muscle bulge. He was put on Alive told it will heal. This doesn’t sound right to me. Any ideas would be very helpful. Thanks very much.

Spine Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Rotator cuff tear is something else and biceps tendon tear is different thing. If there is partial rotator cuff tear or even if its full then 6-8 weeks of conservative trial is gives initially to allow it to heal but if no improvement then surgery is done. Biceps tendon tear is something which will not heal. so surgery is advisable.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anuj Gupta,
Spine Surgeon.
