Does Abnormal TSH Levels Indicate A Thyroid Problem?

Recently, I went for physicals and found that I have high levels of bad cholesterol and low levels of good cholesterol. Also, they told me that I have TSH is 7.5, T3 & T4 are normal. Is that means that I have Thyroid? Do I need to go to specialist for treatment?

Hi,

Welcome to HCM. I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

You are having dyslipidemia (high cholesterol) and subclinical hypothyroidism.

In subclinical hypothyroidism your TSH is between 5 and 10, and your T3, T4 is normal. One indication of treating subclinical hypothyroidism is presence of high cholesterol.

So you should consult a specialist, get evaluated and started on thyroid hormone replacements. The additional tests that he may do are anti thyroid antibodies and ultrasound of thyroid.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
