Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your Dad having head spin last night, got better, went to sleep, felt little acidity on getting up, went to a Doctor who said the blood pressure was fine hence the head spin would have been due to acidity...
You are correct, acidity giving head-spin is possible but the basic problem lies in the fact that what exactly your Father felt in head spin.
There are three types of the problem one gets:
- Blackening in front of eye is felt as head-spin.
- Feeling of self rotation.
- Feeling that the surrounding is moving.
If any of these was the problems, the most probable causes are many.
- Vascular, as the age advances the
vertebral and/or
carotid artery supply is hampered causing
vertigo.
- Viral infections can cause same problems.
-Cervical sponditilits is a well known cause.
I would advise him the following:
Keep under observation what exactly is the feeling.
Get started with a PPI like
Omeprazole since acidity is present.
If there is true vertigo that re-appears get an opinion and proper clinical evaluation by a
Neurologist and invested accordingly like neck color doppler,
MRI of the mastoids and brain as the case may be .
Get started on medication for head-spin if required.
If the problem settles without any medications, plain observation is needed and he should avoid going alone, no driving for a few days.
