Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i am 29 years old lady. i have mild to severe attacks mainly during april to june;maybe because of pollens during the harvest season. i use aerocort when it becomes difficult to breathe. i am planning to have a child. does aerocort have any side effects on pregnancy?
It has no harmful effects during pregnancy hence can be taken safely.
Aerocort inhaler contains a steroid (Beclomethasone) which is a potent anti-inflammatory drug and a bronchodilator (Levosalbutamol) which is a short acting beta2 agonist.
Both these drugs are effective in relieving bronchospasm (severe narrowing of the airways) and suppressing inflammation responsible for an acute episode of bronchial asthma.
Inhalers are generally safer than pills because of the amount of drugs absorbed into blood is minimal and hence less likely to cause any harmful effects on the growing fetus (unborn baby).
Hence it is safe to use throughout pregnancy at low to moderate doses to control asthma symptoms and prevent exacerbations.
Other best combination of anti asthma medication would be a combination of Salbutamol & Ipratropium which are also absolutely safe during pregnancy.
Hope these answer your query.
