Does Alcohol Interact With Rocephin?

I ve been taking an antibiotic called Rocephin through an IV for the past 28 days. Today was my last day and I had the IV removed. During this time I was told not to drink alcohol due to liver problems caused by the antibiotic. How long until i can safely drink again?

Hi & Welcome.
I can understand your concern for the safety of consuming alcohol while taking the antibiotic Rocephin.
Yes, when taken together a harmful reaction called as "disulfiram like reaction" can occur.
Antibiotic Rocephin (Ceftraxone) may interfere with the break down of alcohol in the body, and can cause unpleasant symptoms like nausea, vomiting, skin flushes, headaches, or a fast or irregular heartbeat.
Consuming alcohol while taking this medication (or even within 3 days of taking it) may cause the side effects mentioned above.
You should avoid drinking alcohol for at least 72 hours after finishing a prescribed course of Rocephin.

Hope this answers your query.
A feed back is appreciated.
