Does An Amoxicillin Overdose Cause Any Side Effects?

Hi, I am 31 years old and 130 pounds. I accidentally took 2 amoxicillin tablets within 10 minutes from each other and I am concerned about the side effects? It s 10 at night, if I do experience side effects what is the expected time frame? I am also taking medicine for my sinuses and gastritis (famotidine) so I mistaken the medicine. I did not take the other medicine since I felt nauseas yesterday when I took them all together

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Dose of Amoxicillin taken?

Amoxicillin is a synthetic penicillin commonly prescribed to treat susceptible bacterial infections. A common dose of amoxicillin for an adult with sinus infection is 500 mg every 12 hours or 250 mg every 8 hours until the prescription is finished. For a more severe infection, it may also be prescribed in the dose of 875 mg every 12 hours or 500 mg every 8 hours.

There's no need for treatment of its overdose. Make sure you take plenty of liquids if you develop diarrhea. However, if these persist and do not get better, or you notice your urine as turned a dark color, you must consult your treating doctor.

Keeping a pill diary is a good day to avoid this from happening in the future.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
