Does An Iron Supplement Cause An Altered Sense Of Smell And Taste?

Good Evening,
My husband had total left hip replacement two weeks ago today.
He has a bad odor in his nose and this has caused a change on how his food tastes. He is currently on amoxicillin for what they thought was a sinus infection, which the Dr. said his nostrils were inflammed but could be the start of an infection. He is also on iron tablets 65 mg twice a day, Alieve twice a day for pain. Could the iron be the cause of the nose odor and the taste on his tongue? He said his stools smell the same as the odor in his nose. Just thought I would add that.
Thank you so much for your time.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, it can do so. Both the amoxicillin and sinus infection can lead to such effects. They are likely to subside with regular use as the antibiotic course should be completed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
