Does Change In Dosage Of Hashimotos Thyroiditis Medication Cause Dryness And Shrinking Of My Lips?
I have hashimotos thyroiditis. My levels have been looking fine after taking 88 mcg levothyroxine. 1 month ago I went down to 75 mcg of levothyroxine, because I was having irritability issues. Starting 2 days after my new change in dosage my lips have been dry, pale, & shriveled feeling on the inside. I have switched my toothpaste to an SLS free one, been taking a daily multivitamin (rich in B vitamins), increased water, & been using a dry-mouth mouthwash. None of these things have helped. Is this a side effect from my change in dosage?
General & Family Physician, Dr. Piyush K's Response
Welcome to HCM. I understand your concern. Decreasing a dose from 88 mcg to 75 mcg might have resulted in increased thyroid gland activity that was earlier used to be controlled by the previous dosage. But confirmed Opinion cannot be given unless the lab results indicates so. I would advice such a patient coming to me to do a lab test-Thyroid function test. Follow up with a general physician or endocrinologist with the lab reports.
Hope i answered your queries. Take care.Be healthy.
