Does Cortisone Injection Prevent Pregnancy?

Hi. My daughter has been trying to concieve. Her doc has now raised her clomid for the second time. Her progesteron dropped to a 2 he said and he also said that is not a bad thing. I do not believe he knows she has had cortozone injection every two weeks for about a year. She has not had one in a few months though. My question is can these injections limit her from concieving and if so for how long?

Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

Cortisone, or any steroid injection, does not interfere with conception. In fact, it is used to treat some immune problems related to conception.

However, the disease that your daughter takes the injections for may have some affect on her ability to get pregnant. If she has an autoimmune disease, such as juvenille arthritis or lupus, these conditions may affect her ability to conceive.

It is important that your daughter tell her doctor about all the medications she is taking and why. That way her doctor can safely help her get pregnant, and once she is make sure the baby is OK with whatever medical condition she may have.

I hope this information was helpful and that I adequately answered your question. Best of luck to you and your daughter getting pregnant.

Sincerely, Dr. Brown
