Does Deficiency Of Progesterone Cause PMS And Cramps?

I m 26, and suffer with bad PMS. Lately my period cramps have been getting worse - I ve had three episodes this year where they were so bad that I nearly fainted/vomited. Up until this year, I ve always had a very regular period, heavy on the first day and getting lighter over the next three or four days. The last two months, it s started with spotting barely anything, then the second day is awful, and then by the fourth day it s finished. Last month I worked out I bled 60ml just on the second day (I was emptying my cup every hour and a half), but overall it was only about 80ml, which I understand is still a normal amount of blood loss. I m not anemic, but I am getting worried now by this change in my periods. Could I be progesterone deficient? I ve read this is a possibility. I should add that I am sexually active, but always use condoms.

OBGYN 's  Response
Hello,
Hormones have been stated to be one of the causal factors of premenstrual syndrome, but no definite diagnostic test is yet available to confirm this. Since you have severe pain, you may use analgesic medication when you sense the symptoms. Medications which decrease serotonin in the blood may be used. Diuretics and hormone contraceptives to inhibit ovulation, are some other available treatment formats. Apart from these, alteration of dietary habits and adoption of lifestyle changes is also helpful. Take care.
