Does Delayed Period After Stopping Birth Control Indicate Pregnancy?
I had my first period on September 1 since stoping my birth control mid cycle. I want to get pregnant. I am now on day 29 and I have not had My period yet. Am I getting my hopes up too soon? Could this be that I pregnant or that my periods are just messed up. My appetite has increased over the past week and a half.
Birth control pills are not typically associated with decreased fertility rates during the first year after stopping them. In fact, we often tell patients that there is 'no delay to fertility' with birth control pill cessation. That being said, it is not unusual to have some variation in when you ovulate in the first few months after stopping the pill which might lead to variation in your cycle interval. So this slight delay in your period might be related to a slight delay in ovulation BUT it might also be related to pregnancy. A pregnancy test will turn positive about two weeks after conception. Check a test now and again in one week. If you are not pregnant, my guess is that you will get your period within the next 1-2 weeks.
I hope that this helps and good luck!
