Does Expelling Of Second Hand Smoke Pose A Risk To Non Smokers And Will Air Purifier Help?

I work with a smoker. She goes outside about 7 times a day to smoke but returns to her desk and sighs alot and expels the secondhand smoke into the 10' x 15' room. Is this a dangerous situation for me? I am considering buying an air purifier but not sure if it will help remove the gases/smoke she brings back into the office. If so, can you suggest a brand of air purifier that I could afford? Thanks.

Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

The fact remains that passive smokers are at a greater risk that the normal population. Some studies have suggested a higher risk in fact.

The problem arises that passive smoking is not just about the gases. There are huge number of particulate matter that attaches to the personal affects of the person like clothing.

The best idea would be to change your working area. Of course that is not always possible.

A air purifier is a good idea but will have limited value (as explained about particulate matter).
Now for the last part of the query, I need to know where you are from and whats your budget.

I hope this helps you. Best of luck.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. Looking forward to your return query with the details asked so that I can help you further.
