Does Injury To Spine Right Side Require Medical Attention?

I slipped on one of the last steps of my carpeted stairs and hit my back, to the right of my spine, from mid to lower back. It knocked the wind out of me. I didn't hit my head. Is this something I can just take some ibuprofen and rest, or do I need to have a doctor take a looksee, xrays, etc.?

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your symptoms seem to be related to a muscular contusion.

I recommend using some cold packs on the region and have some rest for a couple of days. Painkillers (acetaminophen or ibuprofen) can help for the pain.

If the pain does not get better or even worsens, or if you have gait disturbances, I would recommend going to the ER for a physical exam and a lumbar X Ray study.

Anyway, I think that you have nothing to worry about and all this situation is just temporary. You will recover soon. Just be patient and follow the above tips.

Hope to have been helpful!
