Does Intake Of Alcohol Cause Side Effects While On Citalopram?

I just found out my husband has been taking citalopram hydrobromide 20 mg once a day in the morning. He didn t want me to know. I see that alcohol should not be consumed while taking the medication. He will drink socially, 2 - 3 drinks throughout the course of the time. For example, New Year s Eve, today during a bowl game, sometimes on a weekend but all in the evening. He thinks since he takes the medication in the morning and then has a drink late afternoon/evening, this is fine. I would like to know, is this fine or not for peace of mind. Thank you.

Alcohol along with escitalopram can increase side effects like drowsiness, difficulty concentrating, nervousness etc. It is recommended to avoid or limit alcohol consumption while on escitalopram.
Since your husband has only been drinking moderately, it should not cause many problems. However, it is best to avoid alcohol.
