Hello doctor, i am a 67 years old male. at the end of October I lost my hearing, I went in the shower and came out and was deaf in both ears. After my wife eventually getting through to gp surgery wife was asked if I had had a cold or had felt unwell, which I hadn't. A prescription was left for me for some spray to spray down my throat and tablets. After 3 days of this all of a sudden i felt extremely sick and dizzy so I stopped talking the spray and tablets. Then got an appointment with a gp. Referred to ENT but in the meantime went to boots to have a hearing test, paid to have hearing aids fitted, but after some weeks they did not help so took them back. Had referral appointment and eventually got NHS hearing aid, have since had MRI scan and results say today that all ok with scan and been told that I have Labrynitites. Although I have no other symptoms like the dizziness, vertigo, loss of balance apart from on the first week just for one day. I still can't hear With the NHS aids. the consultant has said that the hearing will not come back and that I should revisit audiology to have the aids tested. I have also lost complete sense of smell which doesn't seem to be a symptom of labrynities. Can you offer any further advice. Many thanks franco. I am driving my family mad.
