Does Lack Of Estrogen Cause Dry Mouth?

my doctor found out that I had no estrogen , even though I still had my ovary, I am 61..I knew my body needed this. I got dry mouth with dry eyes, but since my doctor but me estradiol 0.5, and put it under my tongue, I notice that my mouth wasn t dry. When I would wake up my mouth would feel like it was on fire, it was the worse feeling, I could hardly swollen, but the estradiol has stop the dry mouth. The question is could my body been so mess up with out the estrogen , that would have cause the dry mouth, eyes ?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, in post menopause lack of estrogen may lead to dry mouth and mucosa. Hormone replacement may recover this condition. Also, check for other possibilities Sjogren's syndrome or Vitamin A deficiency or anemia or systemic sclerosis etc.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
