Does Medication For Thyroid Problems Cause Weight Gain And How To Manage It?

My doctor said i am having a thyroid problem,i am having it since long back (i.e 9yrs back) ,now my age is 23.i am using thyroxine sodium tablets ip thyrox-25 tablet every day early morning with empty stomach.when can i stop using the tablets ? because every time when i check the thyroid test doctor says it is normal in condition but you have to use the tablet daily. 6 months back i have taken the thyroid test the results came like this t3-87ng/dl,t4-6.9ug/dl,tsh-3.95 uiu/ml.and now recently i am gaining weight more now my bmi is over weight . Is their any relation with thyroid,what type of thyroid i am suffering and please suggest me what king of food i have to take to control it .

Your thyroid problem is Hypothyroidism
Hypothyroidism means deficiency of thyroid hormone in the body.Hence doctor is giving you synthetic hormone ie. thyrox
Hypothyroidism can cause weight gain.
But thyroid treatment with thyrox won't cause weight gain.
You can check thyroid anti-bodies in your body.It can give you a clue regrading the thyroid status
Weight gain with borderline TSH value is an indication for increasing thyroxine dose
