Does Overdose Of Rabipur Shots Cause Any Side Effects?

I recently got my first anti rabbies vaccine at our local hospital. 3 days after I got the first shot, I transferred to our local city health center for personal reasons. The problem is that the city health nurse reset my vaccination schedule to day 0 when I went there. As a result, I ll be receiving 4 doses of vaccine in a span of 10 days. The first shot I got was Rabipur, while the next shot (upon reset) was Verorab. Will this impose a serious health implacations on me? Is this considered overdose of rabbies vaccine? Of yes, what effect will this overdose have on my health? I hope you could answer this query.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Rabipur is a purified chick cell vaccine (PCECV) available in a dose of one ml. Verorab is an purified vero cell vaccine (PVCV) available in a dose of 0.5 ml.

As far as possible these vaccines should not be interchanged. However, if there's no option these vaccines can be interchanged, and the studies have shown that both the vaccines are equally effective in inducing the protective antibody titers.

So, Verorab can be taken which will also help you to induce the antibody titers it will not have a serious health implication. Since you have taken an extra dose, this does not amount to an overdose of rabies vaccine as an overdose of rabies vaccine is unlikely to occur and it has no serious health implication.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
