Does Pain And Weakness In Arm Radiating Towards Shoulder And Neck Indicate Tendonitis?
I have severe pain and weakness in my upper right arm. the pain and weakness is now radiating down my lower arm and up my shoulder and neck. The pain started approximately 4-5 weeks ago and is intensifying. It is affecting my sleep and my ability to use the arm for normal activities. Could this be tendonitis?
General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Tendinitis won't affect complete arm. Such symptom is suggestive of nerve pressure at cervical spine(spondylitis) / pressure due to cervical rib on the same side of pain. Normal pain medicine like Ibugesic with a pill of vitamin B12 over the counter would give some relief. Avoid humping at back and dropping shoulders.Keep straight for preventing the pain. X-ray cervical spine and supra-clavicular region would be diagnostic. Ease consult your family physician for more specific advise and specific exercise for relief.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
