Does Polymyalgia Rheumatica Cause Fatigue And Weakness?

Hi, I am a nearly 72 yr old,40- 45# overweight, relatively healthy female. I take no meds except, Recently started on a Spiriva Respimat inhaler - 2 puffs qd, due to recent dx of mod. copd - following an ekg, neg, stress echo, cxr and chest CT. 2 LL nodules - No lesions. I experience intermittent episodes of bi-lat arm weakness/fatigue - and bi-lat leg weakness/fatigue - not always at the same time, but sometimes , overwhelming. I was dx'd with PMR in 2001, after a "flare" . I do frequently have some nomal age related joint aches and pains. Could this weakness / fatigue be related to the PMR ?

Hello,

Yes, it may cause generalized weakness. Most common symptoms of polymyalgia rheumatica are pain and stiffness in the body.

Other symptoms fatigue, malaise, a loss of appetite, sudden, unintentional weight loss, anaemia, or low red blood cell count, depression, a low-grade fever, a limited range of motion.

These people also may have a headache or blurred vision or vision loss etc.

Treated with painkiller medication and corticosteroid or vitamin d supplementation or physical therapy and anti depressants may useful.

Please consult your rheumatologist he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
