Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, my father is 80 and contracted polio when he was 17. He recently fractured his ankle in his good foot and has been in a nursing home. He has developed dementia within the last 3 weeks that has gotten to the point of not being able to carry on a conversation with him. He knows people and dates. MRI did not show significant damage to go along with actions. A neurologist has now ordered more bloodwork and is thinking this could be something else. They are doing a spinal tap tmrw and have started him on a steroid for 5 days. Have you ever heard of dementia being a post polio syndrome disease? Thank you.
