Does Pregnancy Occur Even After The Laparoscopic Sterilisation?

I am 48 years old and have missed two periods...... I have lower back pain and a sharp pain down the left side of my tummy. I had a laparoscopic sterilisation 13 years ago........... I keep thinking surely I am not pregnant as I was putting it down to being peri menopausal..... I don t know whether it s worth doing a pregnancy test or go to my doctor for a blood test to make sure everything is ok.

OB and GYN Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

If you have already done the procedure 13 years back, you need not worry about getting pregnant as it will not happen.

If you are even in the early 40's perimenopausal can happen. As in some cases, it occurs early.

So the missed periods may be because you have entered into the peri menopausal stage. I would further suggest you go for a USG abdomen and pelvis. TSH, CBC.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Naira Jahangir, OB and GYN Specialist
