Does Previously Damaged MCL Cause Knees To Swell And Throb?

Hello, My knee slighy swells, throbs and gets stiff very after standing/walking for long periods. I have previously damaged my MCL (grade 3) and torn the Meniscus aprox. two years ago. The x-ray then said knees looked healthy (no signs of arthritis). Could these symptoms be related to my previous injuries? Thank you.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,Welcome to healthcare magic. After going through your query I think You are suffering from early osteoarthritis of both knee joint as these are very stiff after standing/walking for long periods. You need further investigation by x ray of both knee joints in standing position. Analgesics such as diclofenac slow release tablets is helpful in pain relief. Diacerine and glucosamine sulfate protect cartilage from breakdown and help in cartilage regeneration. Quadriceps exercises is started after pain relief. Serum vitamin D test is advised and if it is low than vitamin D supplementation will be required. Your previous injury may have aggravated it as meniscus injuries are known to cause osteoarthritis early. You can discuss with your treating doctor. I do hope that you have found something helpful. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries. Wishing you good health. Take care.
