Does Prolonged Use Of Cough And Cold Syrups Have Any Side Effects?
Respected Sirs,
My daughter 2 years old has persistent cold and cough for a month now. Most of the times when she coughs she vomits as well, this is generally at nights. We have been giving cough and cold syrups(T-Minic, Amborlite-S\D or Ascoril-Plus). In between as per doctor's suggestion used antibiotics and also Montair 4mg granules one time a day(before going to bed as coughs more in night). Cough and cold have not completely come down, I'm worried prolonged usage of cough and cold syrups cause any side effects. Please advice.
She will need a lot more than syrups for her condition. Yes - syrups are not meant for long term treatment. They are for temporary relief. If her cough is still persisting, she will need a sputum culture and sensitivity tests if the infection is present. The antibiotics are the mainstay of treatment. If these drugs have not worked before, then a change will be advised by your doctor as per reports.
Do this immediately.
Regards,
