Does raw thyroid interact with Lexapro and Zyrtec ? On a recent physical i discovered my thyroid levels high 4.9, the dr wanted to wait 3 more months to check it again but really thinks I will probably will need to use thyroid medicine in near future. I went to natural store to see if I could find a supplement to help my situation and I bought raw Thyroid, it had excellent reviews but I do take Lexapro for OCD and Zyrtec for allergies and wanted to check. I strongly suggest you to avoid any natural supplements, unless it is proven to be safe and effective by evidence based medical research.
Thyroid is a gland, that produces hormones required for metabolism of the body.
If your thyroid gland is under or over producing a certain hormone; the normal body functioning will be disturbed causing symptoms like weight changes, heat/cold intolerance, anemia, change in heart rate etc.
To make a diagnosis you will need to check your blood levels of T3, T4 and TSH; your treating doctor may even advise a thyroid scan depending on the blood results.
As you are on Lexapro (a SSRI class of drug), taking natural supplements with it can lead to potentially harmful unwanted drug interactions.
It is best to follow your doctors orders and wait for three months; as sometimes thyroid hormone fluctuations are transient and self limiting.
In addition, refrain from start taking any additional over the counter medication, herbal teas, natural supplements before discussing it with your GP or a pharmacist.
